Chinchillas are rabbit-sized, crepuscular rodents native to the Andes mountains in South America. Along with their relatives, viscachas, they belong to the family Chinchillidae.
Chinchillas are completely adorable. But I have heard they one of the hardest animals to keep as a pet. Everyone I ever knew who bought one could only keep it for a week to a month tops. Of course the people I knew growing up were not all that clever.

I am ashamed to say I owned a chinchilla coat when I was a child. After seeing this cute picture, I regret it.
